2.6 Million IDPs

Ongoing armed conflict, a terrorist insurgency by al-Shabaab, insecurity, lack of state protection, and recurring humanitarian crises has led to an estimated 2.6 million IDPs in Somalia; with poverty rates varying by region from 26-70%. Conflict, drought, and flooding has disrupted agricultural production cycles and an estimated 2.7 million people in Somalia are at risk of not meeting their dietary needs. As a result, around 1.2 million children are malnourished.

Remarkable progress has been made since the re-establishment of government institutions in 2013, but there are still significant obstacles. Three decades of civil war has severely weakened the health care system, and as a result, the Somali National Development Plan for 2019–2024 has identified primary healthcare as a key channel for improving living conditions in Somalia.

Impact of Your Donation

Give to the World has partnered with Bancroft Global Development to provide medical care for civilians in areas recently liberated from al-Shabaab. Over the years, Give to the World has also supported the treatment of Somali National Army and AMISOM troops through the distribution of essential medical supplies. Since 2018, we have treated around 40,000 patients. Whilst we continue our operations in areas newly liberated from al-Shabaab outside of the capital, skyrocketing prices and resource scarcity have limited our ability to deliver services to civilians in need.

Your support will provide essential medicines and medical supplies to civilians in areas newly liberated from al-Shabaab. The medical care provided by our partner is typically the only medical care that these communities can access. In addition to saving lives, this medical care promotes stabilization by building the trust of local communities.
