Partner Update: MedGlobal's Impact in Ukraine - June 2024

We are thrilled to share some exciting updates from our ongoing partnership with MedGlobal, focusing on their impactful work in Ukraine. Thanks to your continued support, we’re making significant strides in providing essential healthcare and support to those in need.

Mobile Clinics: Reaching the Most Vulnerable

Since the project’s launch in April 2024, MedGlobal’s mobile clinics have been a lifeline for communities in the Kharkiv region. Over the course of April, the mobile medical teams conducted an impressive 531 medical consultations, offering primary care to those who might otherwise go without. Additionally, 216 psychological consultations were provided, addressing critical mental health needs during these challenging times.

The mobile teams consist of a dedicated doctor, nurse, psychologist, and social worker, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care. This multidisciplinary team not only addresses immediate health concerns but also provides ongoing support, including follow-up care and referrals to specialists when necessary.

Addressing Mental Health Needs

Mental health has been a significant focus of MedGlobal’s work, particularly in response to the ongoing stress and trauma experienced by the Ukrainian population. During April, the psychological services team provided 216 consultations, with a mix of individual and group sessions. The most common issues addressed included stress, anxiety, and depression—conditions that have been exacerbated by the current situation. These consultations are crucial in helping individuals regain a sense of stability and well-being.

Social Work: Personalized Support for Complex Challenges

MedGlobal’s social workers have also been hard at work, opening 10 new individual cases in April alone. These cases often involve complex challenges, such as finding new housing for internally displaced people or reconnecting families separated by the conflict. The social workers’ efforts are a vital component of the comprehensive care provided by the mobile clinics, helping individuals navigate the myriad challenges they face.

Surgical Training: Building Capacity for the Future

In addition to their mobile clinic efforts, MedGlobal has been actively involved in training local healthcare professionals. The most recent surgical training session, held in June, focused on enhancing the skills of Ukrainian surgeons. These sessions are essential for building local capacity and ensuring that medical professionals in Ukraine are equipped to handle the complex cases that arise in conflict zones.

Looking Ahead

As we continue through 2024, we remain committed to supporting MedGlobal’s vital work in Ukraine. The challenges are great, but with your help, we are making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. We look forward to sharing more updates as this partnership progresses.

Thank you for standing with us and MedGlobal in our mission to provide care, support, and hope to communities in Ukraine.
