Supporting Refugees
In Greece alone, we have provided medical care to over 1,500 refugee children, offering pediatric services, vaccinations, and critical healthcare.
-
In the year 2023, Give to the World expanded our support to SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society) to create a profound and lasting impact on the lives of refugees residing in camps located in Greece.
In total, SAMS provided medical services for over 1,500 children. Pediatric services provided include consultations and related treatment, immunizations, medications, referrals to collaborating clinics and public hospitals for cases requiring advanced care, and documentation of physical examination through completion of “Student Health Card - ADYM” that is required for enrolling in Greek schools. SAMS conducted 220 vaccinations and scheduled 35 appointments for future vaccinations.
-
The initiatives in 2023 also saw a significant emphasis on women's health within the refugee camps. Services provided included comprehensive family planning consultations, antenatal visits, and effective management of pregnancy-related conditions, catering specifically to the unique health needs of women in these challenging environments.
Medical Aid in Conflict Zones
Since 2007, we have delivered over 199 tons of essential medicines and medical supplies to countries like Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. This includes everything from basic antibiotics to advanced surgical equipment, ensuring access to quality healthcare and saving countless lives in the most dire circumstances.
-
Our expanded partnership with the Dutch medical supplier IDA Foundation was instrumental. We successfully shipped over 25 tons of near-expired, discounted, and in-kind medicines to Ukraine. These medicines, crucial for front-line medics and displaced Ukrainians, would have otherwise been wasted.
Impactful Utilization: These supplies are valued at over $2 million wholesale price ($40 million in US pharmaceutical value), acquired for just $40,000. This remarkable procurement represents a 1:57 impact ratio, maximizing every dollar spent for maximum impact.
-
Over ten years, we mobilized and distributed 199 tons of medicines and medical equipment across nine countries. This decade-long effort laid the foundation for our commitment to making a difference in the world. During these years, we forged a key partnership with the U.S. military, specifically working with the Chief Surgeon of Special Operations. Our collaboration focused on meeting their essential medical needs on the ground. This included the provision of containers filled with critical medical supplies, directly supporting their operations.
Emergency Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we supplied personal protective equipment (PPE) to over 8,320 individuals across Latin America, Pakistan, and Syria, ensuring the safety of healthcare workers and patients. In response to natural disasters like Cyclone Rai in the Philippines and floods in Libya, we have provided immediate relief, including food, clean water, and temporary shelter.
-
In response to the catastrophic events in Libya and Morocco — the collapse of the Derna Dam and the Marrakech earthquake — GTTW allocated additional funding to SAMS. This funding aimed to bolster humanitarian efforts in these regions, with ongoing efforts to ensure that the resources are used optimally and in alignment with local priorities.
-
In March 2023, Give to the World (GTTW) expanded its partnership with Maradeca, responding to the urgent needs of communities affected by the tropical cyclone “Paeng” in October 2022 in Maguindanao, Philippines.
Educational Initiatives
In rural Colombia, we have equipped 10 schools with solar energy systems and water filters, improving education and health standards. We have also sponsored scholarships for over 200 students in Somalia, helping them continue their education amidst adversity.
-
In 2023, we allocated resources to purchase school supplies for the Somali National Army (SNA) primary school in Baledogle. This contribution provided children with essential educational materials like whiteboards, markers, exercise books, and more.
-
In 2022, we equipped three schools with solar energy systems and water filters, significantly improving education and health standards in rural areas. This initiative was expanded in 2023 to include seven more schools, further enhancing local education and healthcare.
-
Datu Odin Sinsuat and Dau Blah Sinsuat were the most affected regions where families suffered greatly post-cyclone. Give to the World (GTTW) provided 500 school kits, evenly divided between the two municipalities. These kits included essential food and non-food items, crucial for children whose families prioritized food over school supplies due to financial constraints.
